hurricane-huntersThe Melbourne Air & Space Show will feature a U.S. Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter.  The USAF Reserve Hurricane Hunters operate the Lockheed C-130J aircraft, which flies directly into hurricanes, typically penetrating the hurricane’s eye several times per mission at altitudes between 500 and 10,000 feet.

 

The primary mission of the Hurricane Hunters is to conduct hurricane and tropical storm reconnaissance. The Hurricane Hunters fly weather missions from the Atlantic Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands, and have on occasion flown into typhoons in the Pacific Ocean and gathered data in winter storms.

 

As a U.S. Air Force Reserveunit flying one of the most capable tactic airlift platforms in the world, the Hurricane Hunters are responsible for the most up to date tropical weather information to help keep United States citizens safe and to weather the storm.

 

Air & Space Show spectator will be able to tour the Hurricane Hunters’ Lockheed C-130J up-close and meet the crew tasked with getting us the most up-to-date information during hurricane season, ensuring our safety here in Florida and around the USA!.
